The Manipuri Youths Front of Assam (MYFA) on Sunday held a public meeting at Banskandi Junior College Karaikandi, Cachar to commence agitations, demanding for inclusion of the Manipuri language in the associate official languages of Assam.
Demanding the inclusion of Manipuri language in the associate official languages of Assam, the meeting unanimously decided to organise a sit-in protests at Lakhipur on September 27, Sonai on 28 and Silchar on 29.
The organisers also mentioned that they will meet with the respective organisations, local clubs and Meira Paibis and urge them to take part in the movement, and also concluded to organise a postcard campaign.
The meeting was attended by MYFA president Thangjam Brojen, member Keisam Bidyapati and Assam Manipuri Muslim Youths Front (AMMYF) chief advisor Ahamed Choudhary as the presidium members, along with Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Lup (AMMPAL) president Sanathoi Devi, Assam Manipuri Muslim Meira Paibi Sangstha (AMMMPS) president Sangita Begum, AMMYF vice president Rehan Uddin and members Salaw Uddin, Ranjit Singha, Champalal Singha, Seram Herajit, Fanjaobam Lokenath.
In a press meet held after the public meeting, MYFA president Thangjam Brojen urged the people to support and take part in the protests. “The Manipuri Muslim community will support MYFA in the movement for the conservation of the mother tongue,” said AMMYF chief advisor Ahamed Choudhary.
