For the first time in Manipur, eight dedicated GPS enabled highway patrol vehicles were flagged off at Senapati on Friday by DGP P Doungel to further secure the National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur).
Police said that the vehicles are equipped with GPS and wireless communication set, and can be reached by dialling 122 and PCR number 8798198810 for Senapati and 9362153322 for Kangpokpi.
It is learnt that the vehicles will cover the stretch of NH-2 from Mao, Senapati to Gamgiphai, Kangpokpi district. Each vehicle will cover a distance of 10-12 km. The Highway patrol will also act as the first responders to any crime or distress along the highway.
High ranking officers, namely additional DGP (Trg/Law and Order) Clay Khongsai; IGP (ADM) IK Muivah; IGP (Z-III) Nishit Kumar Ujjwal; IGP, director, MPTC, Pangei RK Tutusana; IPS IGP (Trg) Mamata Wahengbam; Dy IGP (R-IV) Mangkhogin Haokip; AD MPTC Jhalajit; SP Kangpokpi district Amrita Sinha; Karthik Malladi, SP, Senapati district; DC Senapati Mahesh Choudhary; AD MPTC Ghanashyam Sharma; SP-NAB Megachandra Singh and SP, CMTW, Imphal Chiphang Cecelia Sopemla were present during the launching function.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh posted a video clip for the launching ceremony on his Facebook wall with a caption that read, “Manipur starts a dedicated ‘GPS enabled dedicated Highway Patrol’ consisting of 8 vehicles fitted with wireless sets. The Vehicles were flagged off by Sh P. Doungel, IPS DGP, Manipur at Senapati today. These vehicles, each covering a stretch of 10-12 Km, will cover the stretch around 85 km of NH in districts of Senapati and Kangpokpi. The Highway patrol will also act as the first responders to any crime or distress along NH.”
