Locals of Thangmeiband Muji Leirak, Imphal West, Manipur staged a sit-in protest against bomb attack and violence in residential areas on Monday.
The protesters, holding banners, demanded peace in their surrounding areas following the bomb attack that reportedly took place at Thangmeiband Muji Leirak, Imphal West Sunday evening.
It is reported that a suspected IED went off at around 6.40 pm on Sunday in the basement of an under construction building at Muji Leirak which belongs to the wife of executive engineer of PWD, N Ingoucha.
During the blast, a non-local worker sustained injuries on his leg and was rushed to a hospital. Fortunately, he is out of danger.
In connection with the case, Imphal police station has lodged an FIR and investigation is on in full swing.
No individual nor group had claimed responsibility for the blast and there was no report of any arrest in connection with it till the filing of this report.
Speaking to the media during the protest, secretary of THAU Meira Paibi, N Memcha, said that the blast had brought terror and apprehension to the people living in and around the locality.
Pointing out that such a blast in the residential area is not a new case in Manipur and there had been many instances where sit-in protests were held against such blasts, she said it is unfortunate that miscreants are still carrying out such a terrorising act.
Any sort of misunderstanding can be settled in the form of dialogue, she said, adding that pursuing such violence act for some personnel fight or misunderstanding is condemned by all. She appealed to the responsible(s) to restrain from such violent acts in residential areas.
