The incident took place early Sunday, at around 1 am, as per the footage from a private CCTV camera installed near the pond.

The hunt for the boy, son of one Thounaojam Rajen Singh, reportedly started in the wee hours by locals and personnel of Manipur Fire Service, Imphal. They later recovered the body of the boy at the same spot where he fell into the pond.
