Imphal-Ukhrul bandh called off

A JAC had on Wednesday imposed an indefinite bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road against the daily illegal tax collection by valley based civil society organisations on transport service providers along the route.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) representing Imphal-Ukhrul road transporters on Monday resolved to call off its indefinite bandh along the said route.

The JAC in a statement said the move was taken following assurance by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Transport Minister Khashim Vashum to control the illegal taxes collection in the name of donation along Imphal-Ukhrul road.

It mentioned that the resolution was taken during a meeting held on Monday with the Transport Minister, vice president of Tangkhul Naga Long RS Jollyson, Ukhrul District Transporters’ presidentss Secretaries and members.

During the meet, the JAC also noted the grievances of vehicle owners who collected illegal tax in their passenger services, it mentioned.

The statement was signed by Minister Khashim Vashum, vice president of Tangkhul Naga Long, RS Jollyson, JAC convenor CH Khathing and JAC secretary RS Genesis Mahung.
