A joint team of several groups inspected the ongoing road development work on Imphal-Jiribam Road along National Highway-37 on Thursday and found the blacktopping of the road short of quality and poorly maintained.
The road inspection team included members of the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM), the Longmai Luangrian and Villages Council Longmai Area (VCLA) and chairmen and secretaries of a few surrounding villages. It was led by RNCM chairman Daigong Gondaimei and VCLA chairman Adai Dangmei and Longmai Luangrian. Media persons also accompanied the team
The blacktopping of the road was taken up by the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) under the Union Road Transport and Highway Ministry and Mehta Construction Company and Gan Pati Builders.
The inspection team found that the contractor and company authorities did not meet the standard guidelines as poor quality of bituminous thickness along with several portions of the blacktopping filled with loose soil were spotted.
The culverts and retaining walls were also found to be poorly built with no quality maintenance at several locations.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inspection, Adai Dangmei said that cracks have started developing at several parts of the road (NH-37) within Noney district due to non-maintenance of quality by the concerned company though they have completed blacktopping work only two to three days ago.
Taking serious note of it, he appealed to the company concerned to maintain the quality of the road blacktopping work along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road within Noney district).
If the blacktopping work and other related construction work are not in compliance with the guidelines of the Road Transport and Highways Ministry, VCLA, RNCM, Longmai Luangrian and some CSOs will approach the higher authorities to seek action, he added.
He also warned that various forms of democratic agitation will be launched if the concerned company failed to address their demands to maintain the road condition.
