Imphal East: Remote controlled IED found at Telipati

A team of State Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad disposed of a suspected IED found at elipati area under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district.

A remote controlled IED suspected to have been planted by miscreants was found at Telipati area under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district at 7 am Tuesday. 

Upon receiving reports, teams of Imphal East District Police immediately arrived at the spot and cordoned off the area. 

A team of State Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad picked up the IED at 10.10 am, and it was safely disposed of at Nongmaijing Hills Range around 11.27 am.

According to experts, the bomb which weighed 4 kg was a remote controlled IED. It consisted of a circuit board, a electric detonator, three slabs of TNT (200 gm x 3), one kg of RDX, 1-9 volt battery along with iron balls, nails and a silver pot.  

Porompat Police Station has registered a case in connection with the incident. 

It may be mentioned that at least two incidents of bomb blast had occured at Telipati area recently.  

Additional district magistrate, Imphal East district, Shamin Ahmad Shah had imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC 1973 for a month with effect from 10 pm of December 5 in Telipati area.

The order was issued in the wake of the clash that erupted between two communities in the area on December 5, citing serious breach of peace and grave danger to human lives and properties.

The order prohibits the assembly of five or more people, carrying of deadly weapons like firearms, sticks and stones in public places.

However, government agencies involved in the enforcement of law and order will be exempted from the purview of the prohibition, the order stated.
