The Sagolmang CHC Welfare Joint Action Committee has demanded concerned authorities to fill up vacant posts in Sagolmang Community Hhealth Centre in Imphal East district within the next five days. It threatened to launch various forms of agitations from the next day of the deadline if the state government failed to fulfil their demands.
Committee convenor told mediapersons on Tuesday that there has been acute shortage of healthcare professionals at Sagolmang CHC for the last few months. Hence, the locals requested the concerned minister through a letter on August 11 not to transfer any staff from the said health centre but fill up vacant posts soon. They even served a deadline of three days but no positive response was received, the convenor said.
The JAC had resolved to launch agitation from August 20. However, the concerned minister had responded through the concerned MLA, requesting for a few more days. Hence, the agitation was withdrawn, he added.
Informing that the concerned minister is yet to reply again even after a few days, the convernor stated that the local people are facing so many inconveniences due to acute shortage of doctors and nurses.
In actuality, the number of doctors to be posted in Sagolmang CHC should be 14, but the situation has almost reached a level that the health centre has to be managed by just two doctors, he said.
The people of Sagolmang are facing a lot of inconveniences. As such, the concerned authorities should look into the matter at the earliest, he added.
He also informed that the state government had projected to set up Imphal East District Hospital and even acquired land but that it hasn’t taken up any initiative till date. The local people will take back the acquired land and make it into a conserved land if the state government does not set up the Imphal East District Hospital soon, he warned.
