In the wake of the state government’s negligence to convene an Assembly session addressing the ongoing unrest in Manipur and the perceived inaction of the Privilege Committee against 10 Kuki MLAs, the Imagi Meira has urged the government to repurpose the Assembly complex into a community hall if it remained inactive.

Confrontations with security personnel ensued as they were blocked from entering. However, after minutes of tension, a delegation from Imagi Meira, including its convenor Th Sujata, was permitted to meet with an official of the state Assembly.

Unfortunately, key figures such as the Speaker, the secretary, and the joint secretary were reportedly out of station for official purposes.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Sujata expressed her disappointment with the Privilege Committee meeting, which was postponed due to member absences and had not been rescheduled. She clarified that the organisation was not demanding a specific punishment for the 10 Kuki MLAs advocating for a separate administration but insisted on legal initiatives by the Assembly or its Privilege Committee.

Referencing the recent collective pledge made by legislators and MPs to protect Manipur at Kangla Fort, Sujata emphasised the urgency of holding an Assembly session to convert the pledge into a powerful resolution, urging the central government to take action.

“A resolution passed in the state Assembly will be more impactful than a memorandum,” she explained.

Regarding the meeting with Assembly officials, Sujata conveyed that the secretary would return within a week, and assurances were made to convene the Privilege Committee meeting promptly.

Noting previous interactions with Privilege Committee members at their residences, she called upon the chief minister to take necessary steps to end the crisis through the channels of the Assembly.
