Huyen Mamom members granted bail, still under custody

Twelve women members of Huyen Mamom were sent to judicial custody for 14 days till January 25 in connection with a case filed by the Imphal Police Station for assaulting the woman.

The 12 women members of Huyen Mamom were granted bail by the Duty Magistrate, Imphal East on furnishing a PR bond of Rs 10,000, in connection with a case filed by Porompat Police Station for physically assaulting a woman. However, they remained in judicial custody for another case filed by the Imphal police station.

They were sent to judicial custody for 14 days till January 25 in connection with a case filed by the Imphal Police Station for assaulting the woman and making a video of the incident which went viral on social media.  

Concerning the case of physically assaulting a woman by slapping registered by the Porompat Police Station, the Duty Magistrate stated that prima facie is not clearly made out on who slapped the victim from among the 12.

The court stated that after considering remand application, FIR copy and extract copy of case diary and medical reports, the bail was granted as common bail principle applies “bail is the rule and jail is the exception.”
