Hundreds of women staged a sit-it protest against the bomb attack at the residence of Khurai AC NPP candidate Jayananda in Imphal East on Thursday.

A bomb reportedly exploded at the gate of the Khurai AC NPP candidate Jayananda's residence at Khurai Konsam Leikai around 3 am Thursday. However, there was no report of any casualty or injury, sources said.

Strongly condemning the attack, the protesting women alleged repeated bomb attacks and threats to the NPP candidate.

“People living in and around the locality are living in terror. We cannot tolerate such terrifying threat. Who will be responsible if anyone dies or is injured in the blast?” Khurai Konsam Leikai Kanba Nupi Lup secretary Lasishram Thambalsana, who took part in the protest, said. She appealed against repeating such acts.

Jayananda, while speaking to the media, appealed to the ECI to declare Khurai AC as hypersensitive zone and deploy necessary securities to prevent election-related crime.

“We want peace and fair elections. In this era luring of voters by using money power and threatening of voters using muscle power is not valid anymore,” he added.

He appealed to those responsible for the attack to come out for a peaceful talks if they have any issue with him instead of creating panic situation in the constituency.
