The Bharatya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Manipur on Friday said that humiliating and discriminating President of India, Droupadi Murmu, by referring to her as “Rastrapatni” instead of “Rastrapati” by a national leader of the Congress party is an act of disrespecting all citizens of India.
It is alleged the Congress Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury referred to the newly elected President as “Rashtrapatni” on a national TV channel.
Condemning the address, volunteers of the BJYM, Manipur led by its president M Barish on Thursday morning stormed the gate of Congress Bhawan in Imphal West and burnt the effigy of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
Such an address to the President, which is a gender agnostic and neutral post is not only a act of insulting the BJP, was of a gender biased nature and a humiliation to women and tribal society since Droupadi Murmu is the first tribal and second woman President, said vice-president of BJYM, Manipur, Deshraj Yumnam while speaking to the media on Friday at the Thambal Sanglen in Imphal West.
He informed that Thursday’s protest in front of the Congress Bhawan is to let the Congress party know that the BJYM condemned it in the strongest terms.
He refuted the charges levelled against the BJYM of encouraging violence during the protest. He further alleged that the Congress party volunteers present inside its office threatened the protestors by showing weapons ahead of pelting stones.
The complaint lodged to the police by the Congress against the BJYM regarding the protest is a false allegation to defame the BJYM and BJP, he said, adding that a counter complaint will be lodged against Congress in this regard.
Regarding the allegation against the BJP on the repeated summons of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate over an alleged money laundering case, he said the BJP has nothing to do with it. It is the duty of the Enforcement Directorate to enquire, he added.
Protesting against such summons which is a part of an enquiry shows that the Congress party is supporting money laundering, alleged the vice-president.
