Humanitarian aid continues to pour in for relief camps in violence-hit Manipur

Several organisations, institutions and individuals continued to extend help to the internally displaceds persons taking shelter at various relief camps set up across violence-hit Manipur amid persisting unrest since May 3. 

In Kakching district, staff of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Hiyanglam extended relief items and financial assistance to the relief centres opened under the jurisdiction of the PHC.

A team led by PHC MO in charge Dr Kiran Elangbam extended relief items including plastic water tank, bucket, tuf, mug, biscuits and medical supplies to the relief camps opened in Hiyanglam Girls Junior High School, Wabagai Higher Secondary School, Lotus Club Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai Community Hall, Mayeng Lamjao, Langmeidong Higher Secondary School and Elangkhanpokpi Mayai Leikai Mandop.

Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, the people of Wangjing Municipal Council Ward Number 4 RDS Leirak, Chaningkhombi Self-Help Group and YVA Club jointly extended food items to the relief camps opened in the remote areas of Chairel and Tangjeng Mangjing in Sugnu assembly constituency.

Self-help group member Keisam Gangarani said that the relief items were extended for the displaced people from the prevailing ethnic clash. She appealed to the people to also reach out in helping the relief centres opened in the remote areas of the state.

She further added that displaced people of Tangjeng Ahallup and Chandolpokpi of Kumbi constituency have been taking shelter in the Chairel makha leikai relief centre and displaced people of Napat are taking shelter in Tangjeng Mangjing relief centre.

The relief centres lacked basic necessities and medical supplies. She appealed to the government to take up initiatives to provide help in the relief centres opened in the remote areas of the state.
