Security forces seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts of Manipur on Friday.

Security forces seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts of Manipur on Friday.

As per a statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, security forces recovered four unarmed IED, one country made .32 pistol with one mag and two live rounds from Saiton Gap, Bishnupur District on Thursday.

It mentioned that police were also able to recover one SBBL gun, one SMG carbine with magazine, one pistol with magazine, four 51mm mortar bombs, eight 36 HE Hand Grenades, five tear smoke shells soft nose, one IED, one Walkie Talkie, one dye marker grenade with irritant Anti-Riot, two Cartridges 38mm Anti-Riot with Rubber Bullet, 13 live ammunitions, one Helmet, one SLR magazine and one packet of CAT I I 83mm explosives from Yerum Ching, Thoubal District.

It further said that one Improvised 51 mm Mortar, two Improvised 51 mm Mortar Rounds and one Double Barrel Rifle were found from Loiching Ridge, Kangpokpi District.

While, police also managed to recover one DBBL gun, four SBBL guns, seven local Made Pompi guns, five local made Pompi H.E., 163 barrel gun cartridges, two B.P jacket, two local made B.P plate, one patka helmet, four Baofeng handheld sets with battery along with four chargers, six mobile phones, four combat Knee guard, one olive green coloured Jacket, two Indian made two-wheeler vehicles, two Burmese made two-wheeler vehicles, four stamp seals and one cashbook from Pallel Aimol, Tengnoupal District.

It also mentioned that persons were detained in the search operation at Pallel Aimol, Tengnoupal district.

The statement also said that the situation in the state was under control. It stated that movement of 171 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 129 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 272 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it added.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialing rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
