The United People’s Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organization (KNO), the two conglomerates organization of the Kuki militants under tripartite talks with the government, considers the Centre’s initiative to let Union Home Minister Amit Shah visit the strife-torn Manipur state a positive sign.
The press communique of the conglomerate organization of UPF and KNO signed by Aaron Kipgen, spokesperson UPF, and DrSeilen Haokip, spokesperson, KNO stated that the UPF and KNO look forward to Amit Shah’s visit to Manipur.
It stated that on the eve of the Union Home Minister’s visit to Manipur on May 29, 2023, the Kuki Zo people paid homage to the precious innocent lives lost in the ongoing ethnic clash.
“The state Government has been a silent spectator, so far,” it stated.
It also stated that the Kuki Zo acknowledged the deployment of Central Forces in troubled areas as a positive step to safeguard the community from further attack.
Now that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Manipur for three days for an on-the-spot study of the situation to find a solution to the ongoing ethnic clashes, we view the Union government’s initiative as positive, it stated.
The planned visit of Amit Shah has given a sense of security among the Kuki Zo tribe and we look forward to his actions and directions to end this ongoing ethnic clash between the communities, it stated.
It then appeals to the Kuki Zo population to maintain peace and wait for the outcome of his peace mission to the state.
