Hit-and-run case: Kangpokpi CSOs to ban all commercial trucks along National Highway-2

A young man died when he was hit by a truck moving towards Imphal along the National Highway 2 at Keithelmanbi early Wednesday morning

A 23-year-old man from Keithelmanbi Military Colony was reported spot dead when a truck moving towards Imphal hit him along the National Highway 2 at Keithelmanbi early Wednesday morning.

The deceased identified as one Paotinseh Chongloi, 23, son of Pasei Chongloi and Chinkhochong Chongloi of Keithelmanbi, was a member of 24x7 Bible reading called "Guitanlou Bible Sim" at Keithelmanbi Military Colony. The fatal incident took place when the deceased after reading the Bible at the Church as per the roaster dropped a friend to replace him in between 2 am and 4 am Wednesday.

The truck reportedly fled the scene after the incident.

In connection with the incident, civil society organizations of Kangpokpi spearheaded by the Kuki Students' Organization Sadar Hills decided to impose a total ban on all commercial trucks plying along the National Highway 2 from January 21.

Speaking to media persons in front of Kangpokpi Police Station, Thangtinlen Haokip, general secretary KSO Sadar Hills, said that if the accused come forward and surrender within 24 hours starting this midnight, it will be well and good, but, if the accused failed to surrender within 24 hours, the CSOs of Kangpokpi under the aegis of KSO Sadar Hills has decided to impose total ban on all commercial trucks plying along the National Highway 2 from 12:00 am of January 21.

He also urged the state government to look into the matter seriously and book the culprit within the stipulated time while appealing to the people of Manipur to understand the situation as there is no other option than a ban on all commercial trucks if the culprit failed to surrender or is booked by the police.

The KSO Sadar Hills general secretary further said, "We do not want anyone to suffer but we have no option. So, we humbly urged the people of Manipur to extend support and cooperation to find the culprit and solve the matter amicably".

He also said that the body of Paotinseh Chongloi was kept at the morgue but they will not claim the body till the culprit surrender or is booked by the police.
