HEISAL demands land inside 1st MR campus for temple construction

HEISAL president H Kulachandra claimed that their ancestral land at Ahing Khongbal was taken over by the then British government in 1891 and later the land was occupied by the Manipur Rifle till date.

Heisnam Sagei Apunba Lup (HEISAL) on Thursday demanded two acres of land at Ahing Khongbal in 1 MR Campus in Imphal West for the construction of Heisnam Lairemma Panthoibi temple and for installation of Maharaja Gambhir Singh and Maharaja Narsing statues.

Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, HEISAL president H Kulachandra claimed that their ancestral land at Ahing Khongbal was taken over by the then British government in 1891 and later the land was occupied by the Manipur Rifle till date.

He informed that Maharaja Gambhir Singh and Maharaja Narsing left two different stones inscriptions citing the stay of Ima Heisnam Lairemma Panthoibi in 1828 and 1843 at Ahing Khongbal and the state government had declared the two inscriptions as archaeological site for the stay of Ima Leiremma in 1980.

Stating that the confinement and seizure of Ima Leiremma Panthoibi (which is considered as a living goddess) in a small basket size length is not proper, he said two acres of land is needed for construction of a temple to restore the dignity of the goddess.

The president also informed that a representation was served to chief minister N Biren on March 17 seeking his kind intervention to meet their genuine demand.
