MLA of Heirok Assembly constituency Th Radheshyam announced that a sum of Rs 50,000 would be provided to every household in the assembly constituency that has experienced COVID-19 fatalities. The amount will be given out of his own pocket as a financial aid for the bereaved families.

The MLA made the announcement on Friday while he was leading an essential food distribution drive at localities that have been worse affected by the second wave of the pandemic, especially Thokchom and Bengi khuls. A total of over 600 households received the food packets that included rice, lentils, salt and cooking oils.

While maintaining that the virus can be defeated with ease if everyone followed the guidelines issued by the state government in regard to the second wave of the pandemic, Th Radheshyam said that it would not be wrong to assume that community transmission is present in both Thokchom and Bengi khuls with COVID-19 positive individuals in every household.

The MLA, who is also the chairman of Heirok COVID-19 task force management committee, said that the committee working in close connection with the public has successfully taken up various preventive measures to stop further spread of the disease. Victims are identified and kept in the Community Home Isolation Centre of Heirok, and tests are performed on a regular basis for people who have been exposed to the virus, he said. He further appealed to the masses to strictly follow Covid protocols in order to defeat the pandemic.
