Hawaibam Ranbir commemoration observed

Hawaibam Ranbir Singh was a renowned Manipuri writer.

The 4th commemoration of renowned Manipuri writer Hawaibam Ranbir Singh was observed at Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Thursday.

The observation was organised by Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, general secretary of Manipur Sahitya Parishad Elangbam Priyobrata highlighted that the observance was organised to commemorate the significant literary contribution of Hawaibam Ranbir.

“He served both as the president and general secretary of Manipur Sahitya Parishad. He was at the forefront in striving to include the Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule,” he said.

He further pointed out that Ranbir played a mammoth role in pushing for Manipuri language to be included in the Classical language category.

Hawaibam Ranbir is a historical figure who fought tooth and nail to preserve the authenticity of the Manipuri language, he added.

President of Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal Naoroibam Indramani, president of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal Longjam Joychandra among others attended the observance.

During the event, attendees paid floral tribute to the image of Hawaibam Ranbir.

The attendees also observed one minute silence in honour of the people who lost their lives in the ongoing crisis.

The 193rd and 194th volumes of Manipur Sahitya Parishad’s literary magazine were also released during the observation.
