The JAC against the killing of Ak Nonganba and five women bodies on Friday served an ultimatum for handing over the murder case of Ak Nonganba to the NIA on or before March 20.

The five women' bodies are the Kangla Mei, WASDEV, IKAL, AMKIL and the Poirei Leimarol.

Failure to hand over the case to NIA within the stipulated time will compell the JAC and the the five women bodies to launch various forms of agitation with the public support, cautioned Poirei Leimarol president Memchoubi Longjam, speaking on behalf of the five bodies and the JAC at Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Friday.

Memchoubi also expressed concerns on the failure of the state government to arrest one of the main accused of the murder case, namely, Stephen of NSCN-IM who is at large.

Pointing out that the NSCN-IM had clarified that the killing is not related with their activities and it was entirely the intention of the culprit, she questioned, “Why is the state government still unable to nab Stephen?”

“As the state government had clearly shown their weakness, we have pressed for investigation of the case by NIA,” she added

Recalling the assurance given by Chief Minister Biren of handing over the case to NIA during a meeting with the representatives of the five women bodies on March 11, she called on the chief minister to turn his words into action.

Body of Nonganba will be claimed once the case is handed to the CBI, she added.

It may be mentioned that late Nonganba‘s mother, Ak ongbi Shantibala, is on fast since February 12 (the day after retrieving the body of Nonganba from the crime scene) and the body is still lying unclaimed at JNIMS morgue.

Body of Nonganba was found near Changoubung village, west of NH-2 in Kangpokpi district on February 12 afternoon.

As per police report, the deceased was suspected to have succumbed to his grievous injuries after being brutally attacked with hard objects by some unknown persons and hence, a suo-moto case was registered at Kangpokpi police station.

During the investigation of the case, the police team had arrested one Moses (deputy kilonser of NSCN-IM) on February 13 and subsequently arrested another accused, Thokchom Sonia of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai, Imphal West, on February 17. At present both are serving judicial custody terms.

However, the prime suspect of the case, Stephen Dangmei, who is suspected to be the boss of Moses, is still absconding and yet to be arrested.
