Taragi Cheisu on Wednesday demanded a judicial inquiry into the abduction and murder incident of six individuals in Borobekra Sub-division, Jiribam which they’ve now referred to as the ‘Jakuradhor massacre’.
The body also expressed concerns about possible dereliction or negligence of duty by the Manipur police.
Speaking to the media, member of Taragi Cheishu Aribam Noutuneshwari questioned the delayed response of the state police to the abduction case.
“Taragi Cheisu tailed the police and inquired about the case after photos of the six hostages went viral on social media. High ranking officials in the system told us that the case was being handled on top priority.
Subsequently, bodies of the victims began to surface on the Jiri river making us question if the state security forces carried out the investigation with utmost sincerity,” she said.
She demanded for the case to be handed over to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
“A Special Juvenile Police Officer should have been appointed in line with POCSO guidelines as the case involves children but, this has not been done till now,” she added.
Meanwhile, Khaidem Mani also condemned the torture and murder of the six individuals and called for stringent investigation into the massacre.
“The case also needs a thorough judicial inquiry in addition to the SIT or NIA investigation. The incident is as an act of terrorism, and the organisations involved must be declared unlawful,” he said.
Taragi Cheisu also urged the Indian Women’s Commission and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights to come and visit Jakuradhor,Jiribam and assess the ground situation.
The body also condemned the imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in the jurisdiction of six valley police stations and demanded its immediate repeal.
