An outreach programme of Sahitya Akademi, ‘Gramalok’ was held to promote literature at a grassroot level at Keirao Bitra Village, Imphal East on Saturday.
Poets, namely Heikham Premkrishna, Ningthoujam Yaimabi, Mutum Bangkimchandra, Nadima Sagolsem, Ningthoujam Nandibala and Taorem Yaiphabee recited poems as a part of the programme.
Addressing the function, member of Manipur Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi New Delhi, Koijam Shantibala Devi said that Gramalok is an outreach programme of Sahitya Akademi launch to explore the talents of rural writers so that they can be promoted
She further said that Manipur is being glorified at international level through sports. Similarly, Manipuri literature is also playing a crucial role in making the state known globally. Most of the prominent persons, who are into both these fields, usually come from far flung villages, she said. The people from rural areas can use the talents of such people as their motivators, she added.
Literature plays a significant role in society to promote peace, love, culture and so on, she further said, encouraging the budding writers to put in more hard work and produce quality laden literary works.
The programme was also attended by convener Manipur Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi Nongmaithem Kirankumar Singh.
