In his message, La Ganesan stated that Chakravarti Rajagopalachari who was popularly known as Rajaji, CR or Mootharignar Rajaji, was an Indian statesman, writer, lawyer and independence activist. Rajagopalachari was the last governor general of India, he recalled.

“Rajagopalachari was an accomplished writer who made lasting contributions to Indian English literature and was also credited with the composition of the song Kurai Onrum Illai set to Carnatic music,” he mentioned. He pioneered temperance and temple entry movements in India and advocated Dalit upliftment, he added.
