Manipur Governor La Ganesan on Saturday held an interaction session with district level officers of Imphal West and East at the Centenary Hall of Manipur University.
Interacting with the district level officers, La Ganesan expressed his appreciation to the district commissioners of both Imphal West and East for the execution of developmental works taken up by the government for the welfare of the public, which was shown through power point presentation. He said that it is unfortunate that the pandemic slowed down the developmental works considerably.
The governor was informed that COVID-19 vaccination has not reached 100 per cent mark in both the districts. He encouraged the district level officers to be cautious and work harder to eliminate pandemic completely or else developmental activities will be hindered. He expressed his hope that the state will become a pleasant place with smooth roads.
He informed the district level officers to encourage the public of both districts to open accounts under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana as this scheme aims to revolutionise the traditional banking system of India and it is suitable for everyone, especially for the economically weaker section of the society who does not have a basic bank account. It offers basic financial services like saving account, insurance, deposit account, pension remittance etc. and anyone who is an Indian citizen who is above 10 years of age can open an account with zero balance under the scheme, he said.
He further stated that India is the largest democracy which is governed by the Constitution, and it is unfortunate that some sections of the society are working against it.
He informed that 15 National Highways projects are being sanctioned for the state and they are needed to protect the boundaries of the state. He said that in every district he visited, he was shown a contraband product that was seized by the security forces.
Apart from the district level officer, the interaction programme was attended by MU vice chancellor professor L Lokendro Singh, boxer L Sarita Devi, Ema Y Leirikleima, president Kangla Mei along with officials of both district Commissioner offices.
