Governor Anusuiya Uikey reiterates call for peace in Manipur

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Wednesday continued with her peace overtures amid the ongoing ethnic clash in the state by meeting with leaders and representatives of security forces, CSOs, etc. at the Raj Bhavan, Imphal. 

Lt Gen HS Sahi, GOC, 3 Corps, along with Maj Gen Rajan Sharawat, IG, AR (South), called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and apprised her of the present prevailing law and order situation arising out of the fateful incident of ethnic clash of two communities as well as the deployment of Army and Assam Rifles to contain the incidents and restore peace and tranquillity in the state.

During the meeting, the governor advised them to bring the situation under control at the earliest and bring peace and normalcy which was reciprocated by both the senior officers. according to a release from the Raj Bhavan.

The two officers briefed the governor pertaining to the deployment of Army and Assam Rifles at vulnerable areas of both valley and hills districts to contain the situation and bring it under control so as to restore peace and tranquillity in the state as well as the resettlement of those displaced people in their respective places.

The governor also informed them that she has already made an appeal to the people of Manipur, especially womenfolk to extend their fullest cooperation to the security personnel who have been discharging their responsibilities mainly to restore peace and harmony in the state at this critical juncture, said the press release. 

Md Abdul Latif President, Manipur State Panchayat Parishad along with other members of the Parishad called on the Governor and apprised of the ethnic clash between the two communities and requested for immediate deployment of state forces to the peripheral valley areas to restore peace, the release said.

The team also urged the Governor for providing adequate compensation to the affected families irrespective of ethnicity while the Governor informed them to extend their fullest cooperation to bring peace and tranquillity. The Governor reiterated that the state has been experiencing untold miseries for the last more than two months which are really affected in all spheres, the release said.

While meeting with the representatives of Lukmai Sellup Foundation, Manipur, the Governor reiterated the untold miseries experienced by the people of the state for the last more than two months due to the ethnic clash that broke out on May 3 and made an appeal to them to extend fullest cooperation, particularly to the security personnel who have been discharging their responsibilities to restore peace and tranquillity in the state, the release stated. Only then, the situation will be able to be brought under control by them, it added.

In addition, the Governor informed them of the common programme of actions already taken up/proposed to be taken up by the Central and state governments to bring peace and tranquillity in the State at the earliest. The representatives requested the Governor for resolving the present crisis in Manipur at the earliest, the Raj Bhavan said.

A team of All Manipur Yoga fraternity Union led by its Convenor N Ibohal Singh also called on Governor at Raj Bhavan today and requested to deploy adequate Central Para Military forces in Manipur to restore normalcy and peace. They also requested the Governor for taking up necessary steps to resettle the displaced families of both the communities at their respective places. Governor asked them to help people in the relief camps with yoga classes to get rid of distress from their minds.             

Major (Retd.) N Karan Singh, director, Glazing Tech Lab, Imphal and Manipur International Youth Centre also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan today. He explained about a monitoring system to check violence and other unwanted incidents in time to the Governor, the Raj Bhavan said.
