The Duty Magistrate, Imphal West on Tuesday further remanded "ghost contractor" GG Rongmei into four more days of police custody.
Contractor GG Rongmei was arrested based on an FIR registered by City police station regarding procurement of work order using fake documents and remanded him to six-day police custody after being produced in a court on June 9.
GG Rongmei, full name Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei, aged 41, son of late G Khamningam Rongmei of Tarung Thangmeiband, Imphal West was arrested by a team of City PS and produced before CJM Imphal West. He was arrested from Naoremtheng Samushang Lairembi.
The IO of the case submitted that during the police custody the accused admitted to have committed the offence charge levelled against him. GG Rongmei was elected as councilor of Thangmeiband Ward No. 1 for the term of June 2016 - June 2021.

During the period as a councilor, he started works like construction of retaining walls of ponds, waiting shed, community halls and drainage etc under different contractors. A lot of inconveniences like delay of bills, inability to meet the contractors in time for necessary paperwork, etc. were met working under different contractors.
To avoid such inconveniences, the accused person started to become a contractor. Finally, he became a special class contractor under the name and style of G Gaidon Rongmei, special class contractor, Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited (MPHC) in 2019. Then, the accused got tenders of IMC work programmes like construction of retaining walls of ponds, waiting shed, community halls and drainage etc and completed many construction works.
It is revealed that many of other councillors namely Thangmeiband, Uripok, Sagolband, Keisamthong, Singjamei, Yaiskul and Wangkhei also do the works under the name of G G Rongmei, special class contractor, Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited.

The IO of the case prayed that proper examination of documents and examination of concerned persons are highly required to extract the real facts and veracity of the crime during the further police custody of the accused person. Further, during the police custody the concerned Offices remain closed on June 11 (Second Saturday) and June 12 Sunday. So, further remand of the undernoted accused person is highly required for proper documentation and smooth investigation of the case.
