Former MLA O Henry has 12 pending criminal cases, assets worth Rs 5.36 crore

According to the affidavit submitted before the RO of Wangkhei AC, a charge sheet was filed against O Henry before the Special Judge (NDPS) Fast Track Court, Manipur by the CBI on May 16, 2027 in connection with the Tulihal drug haul case.

Former Congress MLA Okram Henry, who recently was given the BJP ticket of Wangkhei Assembly Constituency (AC), has 12 pending criminal cases against him which includes the infamous Imphal Airport (then Tulihal) drug haul case that took place in 2013.

He is the nephew of former Chief Minister O Ibobi, who is now the CLP leader. He got the BJP ticket of Wangkhei AC by outsmarting the sitting BJP MLA Y Erabot and Th Arunkumar, who was also an aspirant of BJP ticket.

According to the affidavit submitted before the RO of Wangkhei AC, a charge sheet was filed against him before the Special Judge (NDPS) Fast Track Court, Manipur by the CBI on May 16, 2017 in connection with the Tulihal drug haul case of 2013.

The remaining 11 criminal cases against Henry are all declared as “NIL as it is a complaint case,” the affidavit mentioned. As per the FIR, the 11 cases includes a domestic violence (matrimonial) dispute case and the remaining cases are under Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 in regards to a commercial dispute with a Delhi based company upon bouncing of cheques.

In regards to his assets, Henry has total assets amounting to Rs 5,36,26,852.70. He, however, did not mention the assets of his spouse (Victoria Quiyo alias Victoria Okram) in the affidavit stating, ”The office of the deponent had requested for providing information but to no avail. Information was denied.”

Henry owns movable assets worth Rs 1,36,26,852.70 and has a total of Rs 1,50,000 as cash in hand.
In the category of immovable assets, Henry has a self-acquired property worth Rs 1,00,00,000 which was purchased at Rs 52,000 and has an inherited immovable assets worth Rs 3,00,00,000. He has liabilities as loans from the bank of Rs 63,89,726.99.

The affidavit also mentioned that Henry passed the AISSC Examination in 2002 and his source of income is the salary he received as an MLA and he is a social worker by occupation.

Speaking to the media after filing his nomination, Henry contended that the ensuing election will not be a tough fight for him as he will win against the sitting MLA of Wangkhei AC with more than 20,000 votes.

Asserting that most of the people are supporting BJP for the last five years, Henry said that with the support from the people there will be no tough competition in Wangkhei AC.

In the last election, he bagged around 17,000 votes and won the last election, he said, adding that, however, after witnessing the support from public towards the BJP, he will get at least 20,000 votes.

He also promised to complete the left-over developmental work which will be followed by to bring development in human resource and other development works with the interest of the people of the constituency once he is re-elected as an MLA.
