Former Manipur CM Okram Ibobi, son file poll nominations

Manipur Polls 2022: Former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh filed his nomination paper as Indian National Congress candidate from 31-Thoubal Assembly constituency to returning officer Takhellambam Millikan Singh, on Thursday.

Former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh filed his nomination paper as Indian National Congress candidate from 31-Thoubal Assembly constituency for the ensuing Manipur Assembly Election 2022 on Thursday.

The 73-year-old veteran Congress leader submitted his nomination paper to returning officer Takhellambam Millikan Singh.

Okram Ibobi Singh was chief minister of Manipur from 2002 to 2017. In 2012, he helped his party win the state election for the third time with an absolute majority securing 42 out of the total 60 assembly seats. In the state Assembly Elections 2017, Okram Ibobi Singh defeated Leitanthem Basanta Singh and Irom Sharmila.

Ibobi's son and sitting MLA of 35- Khangabok AC O Surjakumar also submitted his nomination paper as INC candidate from 35- Khangabok AC to RO Mayengbam Ranjeeta Devi on Thursday.

Manipur is gearing up for the 12th State Assembly Election for the 60 Assembly seats to be held in two phases - on Februray 27 and March 3. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
