The Federation of Civil Society Organisations, (FOCS) Manipur strongly condemn the physical assault and looting by unknown miscreants on two youths at Moirang Ngangkhalawai in Bishnupur district on Monday.

FOCS in a release on Wednesday said that the heinous act was carried on Giangjilung Rongmei, son of Borouhao Rongmei of Khoupum Satudai, Noney District and Jeanguanglung Malangmei, son of Pouguilung Malangmei of Bitiang Village, Laphok, Noney district.

It raised suspicion that the act was carried out by some unknown miscreants to create tensions among the different communities residing in the state. These kinds of incidents should not trigger the people to break the ‘Idea of Manipur’, it stated.

It stressed the need for the people who have been checking commuters on the road in relation to the violence launched by the Chin-Kuki narco terrorists to check one’s identity carefully. It also appealed to communicate with the community leaders, if any suspicious behavior is involved and not give any chance to the enemy to carry out attacks on us.

“All of us have equal roles in the ongoing violence and must know who are our enemies and those who are the indigenous communities of the state,” it mentioned. It appealed to the local clubs, Meira Paibis and organisations to take up steps to avoid such unfortunate incidents from happening.

FOCS on behalf of the people of Manipur also apologised for the unfortunate incident and also appealed those involved in the incident to return back the things they have looted.

Meanwhile, the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur (ZSUM) also condemned the incident, stating that the two individuals were allegedly abducted by miscreants from Ngangkhalawai oil pump, Moirang and taken hostage at gunpoint.

The increase of unchecked armed activism in the State is alarming and has caused insecurity among the public, it stated.

It further urged the state government to investigate the matter at the earliest and compensate the victims for the loss. ZSUM also appealed to all the Naga civil organizations and the Naga community people for their cooperation against the incident.
