Patients of the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) are struggling with flash floods due to the poor drainage system.
With the coming of every monsoon season, Imphal has been facing the issue of flash flood. One of the major causes is due to improper maintenance of drainage system and rivers passing through the Imphal City.
Official sources told the Imphal Free Press that the drainage water of Lamphel area, including Thangmeiband should flow to Nambul River through Samushang water drainage.
However, the water level of Nambul River is higher than those drains located in Lamphel area, including Thangmeiband area and this could be the reason for the flash flood at RIMS, the sources said.
With slight rainfall on Sunday night, out-patients coming to the department of clinical psychology at RIMS are facing a huge problem as the campus has been flooded.
Early Monday, the private security guards of the hospital reported that the water level was high but it is decreasing slowly.
One of the family members of an out-patient who came to the department told the Imphal Free Press during an interaction that he had to carry the patient on his back to meet the doctor. Hospitals should be one of the most hygienic places but with this condition any patient, even visitors can get infected or sick, the member said.
He opined that the authority concerned should take necessary steps to provide proper drainage systems, especially in the hospitals.
Main entrance of Animal House, RIMS was also seen flooded including some parts of hospital’s mortuary.
