Five women health professionals from the hill districts of Manipur were felicitated during a state-level felicitated programme of Women COVID-19 Vaccination Warriors held in connection with World Women’s Day in Imphal on Friday.

During the programme, five women health professionals from Chandel, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Kamjong and Tamenglong districts of Manipur were felicitated for their contribution towards combatting the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Speaking at the occasion, NHM State Mission director Dr Somorjit Ningombam recalled that during the pandemic several families were torn apart from each other and could not attend to their ailing loved ones properly. But health professionals worked round-the-clock to serve and treat the people during the two-year health crisis, he added.

Somorjit claimed that Manipur was one of the best states in the country to manage the pandemic and extended gratitude to all Covid warriors for relentless dedication in reining in the pandemic.

“Now that the pandemic is under control, health professionals should focus on routine immunisation of children and women in the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, additional director of Family Welfare Services, Dr Chambo Gonmei highlighted that the programme was organised to honour women health professionals for their resilience in combatting the pandemic in Manipur.

“So far, COVID-19 has been the most challenging health crisis the state has faced and the programme celebrates health warriors who took the pandemic head on,” he said.

Dr Gonmei further stated that the fight against COVID-19 is far from over and advised people to continue maintaining Covid appropriate behaviour.
