Five insurgents arrested in Imphal East

The five arrested UG cadres are active members of a proscribed underground outfit, PREPAK, police said.

A team of district commando, Imphal East arrested active members of a proscribed underground outfit, PREPAK during frisking and checking at Porompat DC Road on Tuesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Yengkhom Somendro Singh, 53, son of (L) Y Iboton Singh and Ngathem Boby Singh alias Naobi, 36, son of Ng Biramangol Singh both from Chanam Sandrok Makha Leikai, Irilbung police station, Imphal-East District.

Police said that the commando team conducted random frisking and checking of suspected passer-by at Porompat in front of Imphal East DC complex around 2 pm. During the activity Somendro and Boby were detained.

On verification, they identified themselves and revealed that they are active members of the said proscribed outfit. They disclosed that they joined the outfit through one Ibochouba of Keirao Litan Makhong, Imphal East district in 2010 and that they are presently working under his command.

Both the detainees also disclosed that they had recruited one Keisham Nilachandra Singh of Sandrok Makha Leikai, Imphal East to join the outfit on the advice and instruction of Ibomcha in 2010 and handed him over to one unknown person at Moreh.

Both were arrested at the spot and handed over to Porompat police station for further action.
