A shootout between the Churachandpur district police and suspected cadres of the outlawed Kuki Independent Army (KIA) reportedly took place in Churachandpur district, leaving five suspected KIA cadres injured on Sunday.
The two sides reportedly exchanged fire at a forest between Kolchung and Songphu village which is located 30 km northeast of Henglep police station in Churachandpur district.
According to sources, after KIA cadres led by its commander in chief Thangkhongam Haokip alias Davidson raided and looted the SoO Horeb camp at Chongkhozou in Henglep subdivision on April 8, a team of Churachandpur district police who were dressed as civilians have been conducting an operation at the surrounding forest areas.
It maintained that at the shootout, five suspected KIA cadres were injured and four guns were recovered. The recovered guns do not seem to be the ones which were looted in the raid at the SoO Horeb camp on April 8, it stated.
The Churachandpur district police will continue with the operation, the source added.
