Five BJP MLAs to adopt TB patients in Churachandpur

The adoption of tuberculosis patients under Seva Pakhwada marking the 72nd birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was held at the TB Clinic, District Hospital, Churachandpur on Thursday.

The programme was organised by Churachandpur District BJP as Seva Pakhwada, Day five, where all the five BJP MLAs from the district were invited. But, only two turned up.

The organiser presented the names of five TB patients that are to be adopted by each of the five BJP MLAs in the district.

Speaking at the occasion, Churachandpur BJP MLA LM Khaute said, "We must understand and accommodate TB patients". Thanlon BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte also spoke on the occasion.

There are around 130 TB patients in the district.

DTO Dr Ngahneikim Haokip spoke about the need for community participation and ownership of TB patients where nutrition is poor, saying that apart from the MLA, CMO Churachandpur, Dr Kim Simte promised to adopt one and the DC will adopt two while others officers will also adopt to make it 33 in the district.

She asked the community and individuals to come out and support as TB doesn't discriminate through caste or creed, rich or poor, young or old while pointing out that some patients are as young as a year and as old as 90 years.

WHO TB Consultant, Dr Robin, to eradicate Tuberculosis in India by 2025, five years ahead of other countries, called on the community leaders to take the responsibility as some variants of Tuberculosis take more than 20 months to cure even with good medicine and nutritional diet. 

Churachandpur District BJP president Thangngam Haokip and his cabinet and others also attended the programme.
