First medical college in Manipur hill districts to begin academic session with 100 MBBS seats

The Churachandpur Medical College has received a "Letter of Intent" to initiate an academic session from the MARB to initiate the academic session with 100 MBBS seats.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has approved 100 MBBS seats in Churachandpur Medical College (CMC), the first medical college to be set up in the hill districts of Manipur.

Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that CMC has received a "Letter of Intent" to initiate an academic session  from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) to initiate the academic session with 100 MBBS seats.

"In yet another great news for Manipur, the Churachandpur Medical College (CMC) has received the Letter of Intent from the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) to initiate the academic session with 100 MBBS seats," CM Biren tweeted.

The chief minister chaired a meeting with the state Health Minister and officials on Thursday.

"For the first time in Manipur, we are finally having a Medical College in a hill district of Manipur. Thankful to PM @narendramodi  Ji for delivering this long awaited dream of people of Manipur. Chaired a meeting with Hon’ Health Minister & officials to discuss the way forward," CM Biren said in another tweet.

On May 7, the chief minister had said that the Churachandpur Medical College will be inaugurated and made functional as a part of the 100 Action Points for First 100 Days of the present government.

The first director of Churachandpur Medical College, Dr Soubam Iboyaima Singh had on July 22 visited the under construction building of the medical college in the Churachandpur District Hospital campus.

Meanwhile, the MARB of National Medical Commission (NMC) has also approved to increase 50 MBBS seats at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal for the academic year 2022-23. The MBBS seats intake at JNIMS has been increased from 100 to 150.
