An FIR has been lodged against a Kuki MLA of the BJP, Paolienlal Haokip, at Imphal Police Station following allegations of making inflammatory and provocative statements during an interview with journalist Karan Thapar on the online news platform The Wire.
The complaint, filed by the Uripok Apunba Lup, also cited a report of the interview, published by a local daily.
In the interview, the BJP MLA allegedly stated that the recent killing of three women and three children in Jakuradhor, Jiribam, was carried out by the Kuki community as an act of revenge for the brutal murder of a Kuki woman.
The MLA reportedly described the act as intentional and justified it as retaliation. The complainant claimed that the MLA’s remarks not only amounted to an abetment of murder but also risked fueling further enmity between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities amidst the ongoing ethnic tensions in the state.
The Uripok Apunba Lup has requested the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and take legal action against the MLA under relevant criminal laws.
