Stressing the need of boosting the financial literacy rate of the state in moving towards development, Manipur Social Welfare director Ng Uttam on Friday cautioned that the economy of the state will be fully controlled by outsiders if the people of Manipur continue to neglect financial literacy.
The term financial literacy is not new to the state, but the trends of pursuing education only to run for a white-collar job have made financial literacy seem like a foreign term, he added.
He pointed out that financial literacy is the foundation to economic development which is indeed the key to overall development.
Speaking during the 15th foundation day celebration of Patriotic Writers Forum (PWF) at Manipur Press Club in Imphal, Uttam apprised the writers of the state to write books, dramas or films which can provide financial literacy to the public.
Floral tributes were given to the departed members of PAWF during the programme besides releasing a book entitled “Naheironda Tairen Pungphai” by Naoroibam Khamba Luwang who is the president of PAWF.
The programme was also attended by assistant professor, Laishram Landhoni Devi, and patron member of PAWF, Wahengbam Hemabati Devi, as dignitaries.
