Fierce gunfight along India-Myanmar border

Villagers are said to have fled from their homes towards Moreh border town amid gunfight along India-Myanmar border.

A fierce gunfight was reported on Saturday afternoon at the Border Pillar No 80 near Holenphai village along the India-Myanmar border causing panic among the villagers. The villagers have fled from their homes towards Moreh border town, sources said.

According to reliable sources, there is a large camp of the PDF and KNF(B) near Holenphai village and it was suspected that the gunbattle could be between Myanmar junta and separatist groups in the country.

Meanwhile, a gunbattle erupted between personnel of Manipur Rifles and suspected Kuki militants at Tuikun village on Saturday, amid efforts to end bloodshed in the strife-torn state.

The incident occurred around 7.15 pm when the Manipur Rifles troops went patrolling at Kangchup Chingkhong where they were fired upon and security personnel retaliated.

A brief exchange of fire took place between the two groups. However, there were no confirmed reports of casualties from the fighting till the time of filing this report.
