Family of deceased 'pregnant' woman demands probe

Family demanded the authorities for a probe to identify the father of the unborn child of a woman who was found dead by hanging.

The family of a woman, who was found dead by hanging and seven-month pregnant, has refused to receive the body and demanded the authorities for a probe to identify the father of the unborn child, sources said.

The victim Yengkhom Ronibala, 23, daughter of (L) Y Shyamkishor from Awang Leikithabi, Imphal West, had been staying at her maiden home after her husband, with whom she had two children, died, the sources said.

However, on June 8, she was found dead by hanging at her maiden home around 10:00 pm, the sources added.

As per the sources, Sekmai police filed a case regarding the incident and a post mortem was conducted which revealed that (L) Ronibala was seven months pregnant.  And on receiving the information, the anxious family demanded the authorities for a probe to identify the father of the unborn child, it continued.

The family stated that they will not receive the bodies (mother and unborn child), which are kept at the RIMS mortuary, until their demand is met, as per the sources.
