The Kom community in Manipur has demanded punitive action against erring doctors following the death of an expectant mother on Thursday as a result of the alleged negligence of the concerned doctors of the gyneacology department, RIMS.
A public meeting cum sit-in-protest was held on Sunday at Wabagai Keithel Macha, Kakching district, in connection with the death of one Hoiningliu Mangte @ Thoibi, wife of Wahengbam Malemnganba of Hiyanglam Waikhom Leikai, Kakching district.
The sit-in-protest was held at Ichum Kom (birthplace of the deceased woman) by the family members and Kom community, condemning the incident and demanding punitive action against the concerned doctors.
The sit-in- protest was also organised by the JAC formed against the death of the woman on April 20, due to the negligence of the concerned Dr Rameshwor and Dr Usharani Devi, department of gynaecology, RIMS.
The meeting was attended by Ema Chaobi of Khukampal-II, Tokpaching; Huidrom Padam, president Wanagai Meira Paibi; Thingnam Chaoba of KADUCO; H Kishorjit President CARD and various CSOs, student bodies and woman organisations.
It may be mentioned that the expectant mother died at RIMS after undergoing caesarean section twice.
