In a concerted effort to bolster the agricultural sector and uplift the economic prospects of farmers, the Economic and Resource Development Organisation (ERDO) have joined forces with the Onion and Potato Freight Association (OPFA) to embark on a significant initiative.
This collaborative endeavour involved the distribution of a substantial 30 tons of potato seedlings to over 70 farmers spread across Manipur, encompassing even the hill districts.
The noteworthy distribution event unfolded at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal this past Saturday, signalling a tangible step towards empowering local farmers.
The ERDO and OPFA also outlined their commitment to the initiative, emphasising that once the potatoes are harvested, they will be directly procured from the farmers.
This strategic approach aims to facilitate the liquidation of the produce in the market, ensuring a streamlined process that benefits both farmers and consumers.
Shanta Nahakpam, the Secretary of ERDO, shared insights with the media, expressing the significance of this step in fortifying the agricultural backbone of the region.
He highlighted that the initiative aligns with broader goals of economic development and sustainability.
