Taragi Cheisu, a conglomerate of concerned senior citizens, on Wednesday appealed to the ruling government and the election commission to ensure an admissible voting environment and uphold stringent security measures to prevent malpractices such as bribery, allurement, threats and intimidation during the election.
The group urged all voters to keep their conscience intact while casting their votes and discard unethical practices.
Speaking to the media at the group’s office in Imphal, Taragi Cheishu chairman Khaidem Mani highlighted that thousands of Manipuris affected by the crisis are placing their hopes on the ensuing parliamentary election as a decisive moment to rectify the state’s issue.
“This is a critical moment to choose the right political leaders who can represent the Manipuri aspirations from both the inner and outer Parliamentary constituencies,” he said.
He pointed out that the election called for a strong political leadership who could look beyond the communal divide and conjure an acceptable objective.
“The election can turn the tide towards advancing democratic principles, ensure peace, lay down proper security protocols and usher development for all the people in the state,” he said.
Therefore, he sincerely appealed to all directly and indirectly affected by the violent conflict to rely on their morality and rationality in choosing the deserving candidate.
He further wished that all candidates would demonstrate high moral and ethical standards during their election campaigns.
