In view of the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the Meitei Pangal community refrained from observing the Eid Ul Adha with festive fervour and gaiety in Manipur.
The ‘Empath on Eid Ul Adha’ programme, which was jointly organized by the United Peacemaker Organisation (UPO) Manipur, Meitei Pangal Cultural Organisation Manipur (MEPCOM) and Jamaat e Islami Hind Manipur (JEIM), was held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Imphal on Thursday.
Displaced villagers staying at Naorem Birahari College along with UPO president Haji Tayeb Ali Singa, MEPCOM president Hayatur Rahaman Yumkhaibam, JEIM president Abdul Halim Fundrei and AMUCO president Nando Luwang among others took part in the observance.
Speaking on the occasion, UPO president Haji Tayeb Ali Singa highlighted that the Muslim community in Manipur unanimously resolved to abstain from observing Eid Ul Adha in view of the ongoing unrest.
"The programme, although simple, is our way of showing solidarity with all those who had suffered in the crisis,” he said.
He extended heartiest greetings to people of Manipur on the occasion and wished this year’s Eid Ul Adha ushered peace, love and normalcy in the state.
Meanwhile, convenor of NB College Apex Committee of Victim Villagers Koisham Sharat pointed out that the unrest had caused tremendous stress to numerous people across the state.
“But till now there seems to be no resolve for those who have suffered, instead the recent decision to separate responsibility has sparked even more uproar,” he said.
He maintained that it was time for CSOs and people in the state to unite and fight since authorities were too busy beating around the diplomatic jargon.
