Electorates trust NPP ideology to protect political-socio-economic interest of Northeast states: Sangma

NPP president Conrad K Sangma posted a series of tweets congratulating the winners soon after the election results were announced on Thursday.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party president Conrad K Sangma congratulated the seven NPP candidates who emerged victorious in the election to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly. Sangma expressed confidence in the newly elected MLAs commitment to the welfare of the people.

The NPP president posted a series of tweets congratulating the winners soon after the election results were announced on Thursday (March 10). He cited NPP ideology to protect the political-socio-economic interest of the NE states, as reason for the NPP's victory in seven constituencies.

“The National People’s Party extends its heartiest congratulations to our 7 candidates who have emerged victorious in the election to the 12th #Manipur Legislative Assembly. We are confident that our newly elected MLAs will affirm their commitment to the welfare of the people,” Sangma tweeted.

The NPP suffered damage with the loss of deputy chief minister Y Joykumar and former minister L Jayantakumar. However, it fared better than the Congress party and won seven of the 60 seats in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly. The NPP won in Tamenglong, Tadubi, Kakching, Oinam, Wangoi, Kshetrigao and Moirang.

“The performance of NPP in Manipur has increased manifold compared to the 2017 Elections. We are delighted that our vote share has further increased indicating that electorates have shown trust in the NPP ideology to protect the political-socio-economic interest of the NE States,” he tweeted.

In Tamenglong AC, NPP candidate Jahemlung Panmei, who recently joined the party after he was denied BJP ticket for the election, defeated BJP candidate Huri Golmei, by winning 10456 of the 30653. Huri got 9,147. In Tadubi, N Kayisii won 21,601 of the 45,179 votes against NPF candidate M Francis Ngajokpa who received 21,052. In Kakching, former MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwor, who got 8546 votes, defeated his closest competitor and BJP candidate Y Surchandra who got 7341 votes.

In Oinam AC, NPP’s Irengbam Nalini Devi won with 10,808 votes, in Wangoi AC, K Loken Singh won with 15,606 votes, in Kshetrigao, Sheikh Noorul Hassan win with 13,118 and in Moirang, Thongam Shanti Singh won with 14,349 votes.

Sangma also congratulated all the winning candidates, irrespective of political parties.
