Election officials seize Rs 5.98 lakh cash belonging to JD-U candidate in Jiribam

Manipur election officials on Saturday seized Rs 5.98 lakh belonging to Janata Dal-United (JD-U) candidate, Ashab Uddin of the Jiribam Assembly constituency, sources said.

Flying squad team (FST) I, II and III along with the static surveillance team (SST) III intercepted one four-wheeler vehicle (Mahindra Thar) and seized Rs 5.98 lakh cash, party flags and banners in Jiribam on Saturday, election officials said.

In a video footage circulated in social media, one of the election officials said that the combined team tried to stop the vehicle bearing registration number MN01AS 2198, but the said vehicle tried to escape.

The combined team managed to stop the vehicle and during examination, a sum of Rs 2.98 lakh, 68 flags and 4,600 banners belonging to the JD-U candidate of the Jiribam assembly constituency were detected, the official said. The seized money will be deposited to treasury, the official added.
