Editor of Manipur Express daily no more

L Chinkhanlian, the editor and proprietor of the Manipur Express, the oldest daily newspaper in Churachandpur district, breathed his last aged 64, after battling with cancer.

Editor and proprietor of the Manipur Express, the oldest daily newspaper in Churachandpur district, L Chinkhanlian, 64, breathed his last after battling with cancer at Churachandpur District Hospital around 6 am on Friday.

Late L Chinkhanlian from Churachandpur was the first to have done a Diploma in Journalism course at Guwahati. He had been unwell since 1999 where he was treated of several physical ailments. He also suffered strokes twice due to heart problems and was later diagnosed with liver cancer. 

Prior to starting the publication of the Manipur Express, an independent bi-lingual daily paper published in Paite language, and established in 1981 with maximum circulation in the district and elsewhere, the editor was also involved in many CSOs and was also the  founder president of the Manipur Hills Journalist Union (MHJU) while also served as a member of the Indian Newspaper Society, among others .

He is survived by his wife, two sons and their wives, three daughters and 10  grandchildren who reside at PKT Street, Central Lamka. His mortal remains were buried by YPA Central Lamka Unit at Lamka Cemetery ground on Friday.
