Special Court (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985), Manipur, remanded alleged drug kingpin Lhukhosei Zou into judicial custody after he surrendered before the court on Friday.
The court released him on medical grounds on May 21. After completion of his surgery, he surrendered before the court.
The Special Court (ND&PS) had dispensed his appearance in the main case in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and as per guidelines of the High Court of Manipur. Since the accused person is in the courtroom, he was handed over to the custody of a special Public Prosecutor (PP) to take necessary steps for escorting the accused to the jail.
The court heard the submissions of the accused and his counsel. After being released on interim bail, Lhukhosei Zou was admitted at the Christian Hospital, Imphal as an outpatient and after an examination of his health condition and following the doctor’s advice, he was admitted to the hospital on June 2. After conducting Cholecystectomy on June 4, Zou was discharged on June 8 from the hospital with an advice for check-up on June 13 and completed bed rest for a month.
However, a special Public Prosecutor (PP) submitted that the check-up and bed rest of the accused person may be taken care of by jail authorities as there are medical officers available in the jail complex.
After the perusal of the submission, the court inclined to remand the accused person into judicial custody as further examination of interim bail on medical grounds was not called for.
