The All Manipur Health Services Doctors’ Association (AMHSD) has threatened indefinite shutdown of all health centres under the Manipur Health Services with effect from February 14 if the demands of the association were not fulfilled within the deadline.

AMHSD president Dr L Arke told mediapersons on Saturday at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal West, that the association has been demanding several points, including time-scale promotion, raise in the retirement age of specialist and non-specialist doctors to 65 years, inclusion of non-practising allowance in the basic pay with effect from January 1, 2016 among others.

The government has been informing the public that the government is taking initiatives for recruitment of doctors on contractual basis, Dr. Arke said.

If doctors were recruited on contractual basis with a monthly honorarium of Rs 27,500, why is the same not applied in the recruitment of bureaucrat officers, he asked.

There is a lack of doctors as per the population of Manipur, he said, adding that the state needs around 3,000 doctors at present and the government needs to take the matter seriously.

“We are not fighting against the government but for the justice of doctors,” Arke said.

He further said AMHSDA is not satisfied and convinced in the way it was presented and replied in the Manipur Legislative Assembly on February 3.
