Medical students of RIMS, JNIMS, GNM and CMC, who have been displaced due to the recent turmoil in Manipur and are unable to continue their studies, staged a protest in front of the Churachandpur Medical College on Saturday, demanding that they be allowed by the government to continue their studies.

Numbering over 150, the displaced students held banners and placards that read, ‘Our future is burning', ‘Voice of Displace Kuki-Zo Medical student’, ‘Hear our grievances, save our career', ‘Save Kuki-Zo Medical student’, etc.

A student said that they are demanding alternative arrangements from the Indian Medical Council (IMC), Ministry of Minority Affairs as their fundamental right to education has been denied for the past two months.

They now want an atmosphere where they are safe and secure which is their right as an Indian citizen, the student said.

Another student said that they are stranded from many parts, including Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Moreh, etc. and they possibly can't go back to their previous institution. She lamented that while other students elsewhere are continuing with their classes, they have been left out and demanded the intervention of the IMC and other concerned authorities.

It may be mentioned that while many medical students, both MBBS and PG, are stranded in the hills of Manipur, examinations were conducted in the valley colleges leaving out the Kuki-Zo Medical student, which is the main complaint of the students.
