Discussion on with CSOs for peace: Manipur governor

The Governor, while welcoming suggestions said, discussions are going on with the CSOs of both the communities for bringing an amicable solution to the issue and all stakeholders should also co-operate the government in this regard.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Friday said that discussions are going on with the CSOs of both the communities for bringing an amicable solution to the issue and all stakeholders should also cooperate with the government in this regard.

She said so while meeting with representatives of Teli Association, Manipur, led by Ashok Prasad Sahu along with four other members who called on her at Raj Bhavan and requested to initiate a peace process to restore peace in the state.

According to a release from the Raj Bhavan, the representatives said all sections of society including the Telis have been affected by the unrest which broke out since May 3 and people have been suffering in many ways. They continued that the community has been inhabited in the State for the last many years and therefore they will contribute their best efforts in bringing back peace and normalcy in the state.

They thanked the Governor for her efforts to bring back peace and harmony in the state, the Raj Bhavan said.

She said, women leaders have also been convinced to extend their support to the government so that a congenial atmosphere for initiating dialogue can be created. The Governor asked the visiting representatives to extend their support in the run up for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state, the release said.

A team of Macley Tea India Private Limited, led by Milan Koijam also called on the Governor and briefed about the viability of large scale plantation of tea in Manipur. They informed the Governor that tea plantation can be taken up in Manipur and also it can be an alternative to poppy cultivation which has become a big issue to the state.

The Governor appreciated their proposal and asked them to submit a detailed project proposal to Raj Bhavan and also to the government so that it can be discussed and implemented, if possible.

Newly appointed Secretary of Manipur State Kala Akademi, Sunanda Thokchom also called on Governor, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan this evening. The Governor is the Chairperson of the Akademi.
